Hats off to Asha on major peer honour
Eric Susman Prize recipient Asha Bowen
Hats off to Perth Children’s Hospital Infectious Diseases specialist Professor Asha Bowen OAM, for being awarded the Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ highest research honour – the Eric Susman Prize.
The annual award is presented by the College for the best contribution to knowledge in any branch of internal medicine (adult or paediatric), providing peer acknowledgement of outstanding contributions and achievements that might otherwise not be recognised publicly.
Asha’s contribution to knowledge in her field stems from a career dedicated to reducing the impact of skin infections in Aboriginal children, and the downstream complications of those infections.
Among many significant achievements, Asha led the landmark SToP Trial – a partnership with 9 remote Kimberley communities – which resulted in Australia’s largest community-wide skin infection prevention program, successfully halving the prevalence of skin sores in children from those communities.
Asha also leads the Healthy Skin and Rheumatic Fever Prevention team at The Kids Research Institute Australia and holds a Clinical Professorship with the UWA Medical School.
We congratulate Asha on receiving such wonderful peer acknowledgement.
