Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) has become the first public children’s hospital in Australia to install a world leading rehabilitation robot, marking a major step forward in care for Western Australian children.

Thanks to a $1.2 million investment from Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation (PCHF), the ZeroG 3D robotic body weight support system has now been installed and launched at PCH and is already helping children take confident steps towards recovery, supported by specialist clinical teams from Kids Rehab WA.

After months of collaboration, installation and clinical training, the ZeroG 3D is fully operational and supporting patients from across the state. The system allows children to safely practise walking, balance and everyday movements using a dynamic harness that reduces the effects of gravity and removes the fear of falling.

By enabling children to focus on movement, confidence and independence, the ZeroG 3D helps accelerate rehabilitation progress in a safe, supportive environment.

It was inspiring to meet some of the first young patients using the system, from toddlers taking early assisted steps to teenagers rebuilding strength following illness or injury. The technology can support rehabilitation for a wide range of conditions, including cerebral palsy, cancer, traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological or orthopaedic conditions.

This milestone reflects PCH’s commitment to innovation and equitable access to world class care, ensuring WA children can access the latest rehabilitation technology close to home.

We are deeply grateful to PCHF and to the dedicated clinicians from Kids Rehab WA, whose expertise and passion continue to transform rehabilitation outcomes for children and families across Western Australia.
